Miss Murata has such a unique way of story-telling. It was almost impossible for me to predict what was going to happen. And even then, the stories were never normal. The stories were very quirky, unusual, and just overall weird. Which I absolutely love.

Some of the other stories were an acquired taste, though.

Murata never disappoints. Having read both "Earthlings" and "Convenience Store Woman", I was excited to read this short story collection. Similar to the other books, she curiously looks at norms and morals in society and challenges it with absurd, yet interesting scenarios. What if we used corpses to create furniture? What if we ate the deceased at a funeral? Among other wild premises that she manages to write so well. As a woman, I adore seeing strange women depicted - women who do not fit into society's norms of how a daughter should act, how a wife should act, etc. I really hope to see more of her work translated to English in the future, as I am desperately craving more of her addicting weirdness

Me encantaron las historias! Mis favoritas de la antología son: Life ceremony, A first rate material, eating the city y hatchling.

Murata es increíble contando historias y los mundos que inventa son muy entretenidos.
Aaaaa me gustó mucho!

These short stories are what the back of the book says;
"sometimes sweet, sometimes shocking, and always imbued with an otherworldly imagination and uncanniness."
I love Sayaka's writing abilities. She is making history one step at a time. She's breaking the barrier for what is "mainstream writing". And creating her own amazing books.

This was a great read; just don't read some of them while you're eating :)

Loved it. After reading 'Earthlings', I wanted more "weird" and Murata delivered just that. While I don't think it's for everyone, I found it very... thought provoking? She managed to create a beautiful picture out of things I initially found disgusting/taboo all while making me laugh in-between. I was horrified, empathetic, intrigued and entertained all at once.
