This book went in way different directions than I was expecting. It is a very dark story and unbearably sad. I found myself viscerally frustrated at several points while reading.

Loved this novel, it was captivating and we can see the sides of both the wife and the husband.

I stayed up all night reading this. It was all-consuming and intensely emotional.

Beginning in 1980s Nigeria, ‘Stay With Me’ is the tale of true love between Yejide and Akin. But after 4 years of marriage, familial and societal pressures threaten to unravel the happy home they have built together. What are the expectations of marriage? Yejide thought she had been very clear. But when she has to shoulder the blame for the couples fertility issues the story takes a dark turn.

In desperation to fulfil her perceived duties as a woman and a wife; we see the lengths she will go to conceive a child and save her marriage, whether that be partaking in superstition and rituals or accepting a new wife.

A well developed character driven novel, the chapters are split between Yejide and Akin showing us two sides of the story, perfectly conflicting. The plot is engaging, taking many unexpected turns, a real page-turner.

Ayòbámi Adébáyò has written an honest and confronting view of the pressures of motherhood and the feelings of inadequacy that many can be made to feel.

I have been wanting to diversify my reading and someone recommended this and wow, I have never read any book with a story line even close to this. It was so good. Made me laugh and cry (a lot). It is such a touching and real book and I would pay to be able to read it for the first time again!
