I completely fell in love with Vonetta, Delphine, and Fern when I first met them in "One Crazy Summer". My love for the authors use of time and space to create authentic characters only intensified when I read "P.S. Be Eleven". Ms. Garcia has crafted relationships that transcend the setting of the story. The setting starts in the Jackson 5 era but the relationship dynamics are accessible to all readers. "Gone Crazy in Alabama" continues in the same vein, crafting a complicated weave of familial relationships inherent in many blended families. The themes of love, forgiveness, and finding what's really important in life resonate in the story. Great story for children of blended families who may be struggling to find the ways to connect their various parts.

I loved the first two books in this series, but just couldn't get into this one. I kept hoping that it was a slow starter, so I kept reading, but it never really played out for me.

I adored all three of these books and this last one was the best yet! I love how the author gives glimpses of the full and complicated lives the adults are leading beyond what the three girls know. The writing is beautiful and the characters are rich and complex. I listened to all three as audiobooks and would highly recommend them, the reader is excellent.

This final book about the Gaither sisters combines history and storytelling. I enjoyed hearing the backstory of the family and their relatives.

Such authentic characters, and voices! This is the final of three books following the sisters, and though I have read them out of order, this third chapter arguably stands on its own.

The family dynamics and rich southern setting are easy to get lost in and the straightforward interactions are entertaining. Family dynamics are well-explored, capturing the mysteries of the past and complex natures of how generations relate to one another. This is a fun weekend/beach read for grades 5-8 and grown-up fans alike. I hope they keep coming!

The third book in the Gaither Sisters series (started with One Crazy Summer), this continues the late 1960s glimpse of life in the black community, this time in the deep south. These stories kind of plod along and give us wonderful little glimpses, and by far the best part is the interactions between the sisters, but the over-arching plot always seems minimal.
