This book was slow, halting in some ways, and the descriptions didn't work for me this time. Nevertheless, the ending was certainly interesting, even if the reveal wasn't all that surprising. I'll definitely read the next book, if only because of that ending.

I'm not sure how I feel about 9ne of the romance plotlines, but otherwise this book is genuinely so perfect and I want everyone to read it rn!!!

This was really good!! Although it didn't have the magnetic unputdownable suspense of the first book—not sure if my taste has changed or if I was just in a weird mood—the characters were just as complelling and beautifully written. Zofia, Laila and Enrique are all very precious to me! As for Séverin, well... he's the classic morally-grey dark guy, but he's compelling! And I see why he does the things he does! So I like him too, in his own way lol! But really I'm just so obsessed with Roshani's writing, it's gorgeous and lovely and I really can't wait to pick up the last book!

OK, now we're getting somewhere!

(Although, could anyone else use less of Severin and Laila's tortured romance? No? Just me? Sheesh, I'm such a cynic.)
