I don’t have a great frame of reference because I don’t read much sci-fi, but I thought this was phenomenal. I went into this almost blind and I definitely think that was the right way to do it, as I was kept on my toes the entire time. I really appreciated that despite this being plot-focused and really heavy on the scientific elements, the whole story was driven by emotion and genuine human connection. I liked the writing and will definitely be reading more by this author in the future.

This book is the pumpkin spice latte of sci-fi: basic, over-sweetened, and somehow everywhere even though it’s just…milk, sugar, and a whisper of actual coffee.
We’ve got:
☕️ A main character with all the flavor depth of room-temperature oat milk.
☕️ A wife so bland she makes unsalted saltines look spicy.
☕️ A kid who’s the only one with personality, and that’s because he can hold a crayon.
The premise is fun in theory (multiverse, choices, regrets, blah blah)—but in practice? It’s like reading a Netflix pitch deck with dramatic lighting cues instead of dialogue. You can see the movie adaptation hovering over the page, begging for a Chris Pratt casting.
Do I understand why people love it? Sure. It’s quick, it’s flashy, it makes you feel like you’re having deep thoughts about life for a hot second. But if you’ve read literally any other sci-fi or watched Black Mirror, you’re gonna be sitting there like me, muttering: “This is just Diet Sci-Fi with extra ice.”

An interesting multiverse and multidimensional pursuit. Despite being packed with Quantum Mechanics 101 it still is a bit of a dragging read.
