compared to perdido street station i liked this one less. the plot had more intrigue and ends strong, and there's a good amount of empathy for the characters, but bellis as the miserable protagonist who fails at everything was hard to read. not sure how well that level of cynicism holds up. still, what a world!

I liked this better than Perdido Street Station. The only reason I think is because there was less confusing science. Mieville writes about very different kinds of characters. Very descriptive in his settings.
