Like all Grisham’s books it reads very quickly. The problem I had that this primarily about a former slave island but the majority of the characters where white. A little problematic, a little bit white savior.

The third book in the Camino series which has the main characters from the first two books, but the story focuses on the new character, Lovely Jackson, and her prolific history.  Grisham always has some creative ideas for stories, but does stick to a formula that has been prevalent the last several years. It is ironic that at one point he actually addresses what I have found to be the most obvious issue.  He actually describes that it is hard for writers to know when to end a book and not write too much.  I believe this is why I always feel that there is  lull when it comes to a certain point in his past several books.  The intro and hook is usually really good (James Patterson thinks this is a key to writing best selling fiction) and Grisham is a master of doing that.  His books are always easy to read and provide escapism.  Since he is considered a "Thriller" writer, I have always expected more page turning action, but the technical details seem to get in the way. There just seems to be a "let down" about two thirds the way through his books.  All of this to say that I always enjoy reading his novels and the characters from "Camino Island" feel like a set of old friends.  The story premise is definitely unique, but didn't have me on the edge of my seat in regards to what happens next. It is a solid 4 out of 5 stars and an enjoyable read.
