Read this as part of a “book club”with my 10-year-old niece. I found it delightfully inventive with a sweet center. The characters are distinct, funny, mischievous, and believably precocious. Escalating drama and lively imagination on the part of the author.

I recieved a free eARC of this book, Thank you for the opportunity to read it.
There are authors who consistently turn out good books. Gordon Korman is one of the best when it comes to middle grade school stories, This is no exception.
The school has a new teacher. The young looking Mr. Aidact. Accompanied by his "student teacher" and his bulging briefcase, Mr. Aidact takes the school by storm, taking over various classes, coaching the trivia club and girls' field hockey, and making detention the place to be. Told through a series of viewpoints, from pranksters to overachievers to slackers with detention as their only extracurricular, we get to know Mr, Aidact and his effect on the school. Sometimes the best person for the job..,isn't.
Like Korman's other books, this will have wide appeal for many kids. It is likely to gain a popular,,and well deserved place on school library shelves,

At Brightling Middle school the students soon realize that their new teacher Mr Aidact isn't like most teachers in the entertaining young adult story. Mixing humor and science with a just the right amount of middle school chaos and you have the perfect combination of fun. With artificial intelligence this new top secret government experiment is quickly becoming the favorite coach and teacher, but will the secret get out and how will the students and families react when they realize their favorite teacher is not even human? I really enjoyed how the author blended science concepts with lots of relatable characters to create this fun read. This cute story should be very appealing for young adult audiences.
I usually love Gordon Korman's books. I didn't connect to the characters, who didn't have much dimension. Also, maybe it's because I'm a teacher, but the idea that teachers would willingly give work to possible AI and that he's a better teacher than the other teachers didn't quite work for me. I wonder if the author would enjoy a story where AI takes over author writing tasks and all the writers are cool with it. Maybe I'm wrong and the teacher winds up being an alien. I only got 20% in before I stopped reading it.
My students love Gordon Korman books. They love this one and it is new. I had to order an extra copy. That is why I had to audible this one, mine was checked out. This one raises excellent questions about AI. A timely read. 4-7th graders will love this one.

This books is zany and fun. With a multi-POV cast, we get a variety of opinions on the new teacher on campus… and why he might not seem quite as human as the other teachers. The comedic characters includes a nostalgic, field-hockey obsessed principal, a class prankster (and nervous sidekick), a PTA mom with a crush, an oddly-old and grouchy “student teacher,” an oddball trivia-guru, and more. This book does a great job of bringing AI issues into the light on an elementary/middle-school level, and has a surprising amount of heart. My son and I laughed along with it and had fun trying to predict moments. And we both could have sworn we heard Liza Weil (Paris from Gilmore Girls) voicing one of the characters despite the credits not listing her.

Cute and fun read about a middle school trouble maker and his new teacher. Took a little bit to get into but once I found out the secret I wanted to keep reading to find out how it ended.
Sweet story and easy read. Different viewpoints. Not sure how I felt about the AI perspective considering what it could mean if you think deeply. But overall simple easy story of kids coming together.
