I'm glad we're at the point where there are enough trans books that I can be like, this one just isn't for me, fam! The humor and I simply don't mesh. A friend said it's inspired by anime, and yeah, it seems like it, in that very specific, over-the-top sense that, to me, doesn't translate comfortably to prose. Certainly it's not anywhere near enough to make me even attempt to care about a high school dance.

I loved the intellectual, humorous and nerdy characters. As well as the character development for Charlie VH. He struggles adjusting to an all boys academy, competing for top rank and believing in love again.

i think the idea of this book is so fun and cute, but while reading it i felt like the author may have been limited by the constraints of the YA genre. the relationship between jasper and charlie felt weirdly strained at times and not natural, but they are also high schoolers and had charmingly high school problems. i really liked the side characters! i think this author has a talent for writing distinct side characters, which is rare. i also liked the depiction of stress over grades, which i found quite relatable (even if i didn’t go to a fancy private high school lol)
