A harrowing tale of a girl who's possessed by the lost unlikely of spirits, and the woman who will do anything to free her of it. Incredibly written, Hailey Piper is an author to keep an eye on.

I can't remember the last time a possession story actually surprised me. Well-written and surprisingly complex given the length. A quick and thought-provoking read!

I really liked this!

The narrative follows a woman (Margaret) attempting to help a mother who thinks her daughter is possessed. It jumps right into the action, as this is a pretty concise novella (an hour via audio at 2X speed). I liked that we started in medias res, as well as the length of the novella, because none of the scares felt repetitive or overused. There is some great creepy imagery here, and I was excited that it took a turn I wasn't expecting. Obviously, some plot points happen quite quickly because of the space given to the story: that didn't bother me. I was along for the ride.

If you've read this novella, I would love recommendations!
Spoiler Particularly for horror stories that center wronged animals getting revenge in the afterlife. I loved that plot point in SGJ's work and I loved it here. I need more!

I just finished listening to this as an audio book and I made myself keep pushing through since it was so short and I kept hoping it would get better but it was just bad.. lol

I finally watched the film Possession (1981); we all know and love the milky subway scene. This felt like the PERFECT book to read afterwards. A bit abstract and a bit gore-ish at the end.

Once again in the position of having no clue how to rate a novella because it was so short. My first Hailey Piper and I’m looking forward to reading more! I think this one left me a lil meh

I'm struggling with The Worm and His Kings so I thought a possession story might be a better introduction to Piper's writing and... I was right! It sucked me in immediately, gave me goose bumps and I finished in one sitting.
