Vous pensez que quand Matt Damon a reçu le script de Nolan pour le rôle d’Ulysse, il a été surpris de voir que 90% de son script se résumait à: « Être triste et misérable » ?

Okay this is probably going to sound so uneducated and I swear I understand that this isn’t a book people read to enjoy but that’s how I read and rate books so disregard this if you want an academic review. I loved this book. Having just read the Iliad and not enjoying it in the slightest, this was like a breath of fresh air. Odysseus is an icon and so fun to read about. I loved all the characters, they felt like real people. This story was so much more immersive and entertaining than the Iliad. The theme of hospitality (xenia) rather than honor (in the Iliad) was much more enjoyable to read about. I can totally see why the Greeks sat around and listened to this one over and over again.

I’m not going to review the Odyssey. It would be arrogant of me to try judging an ancient poem that is likely the most influential piece of literature in the Western school. Thank you very much.
I read Emily Wilson’s version for class and I honestly quite loved it.
Such a classic. One of the earliest epic works.
The Odyssey is filled with epic imagery, memorable characters and a lyrical style that has stood the test of time. While its ancient pacing and repetition can take some adjusting to, the beauty of the language and the depth of its themes make it a must read.
