Takopi’s Original Sin takes the concept of the dismally bleak torture porn story and applies a pretty neat twist to it. The store was decently engaging and I’m glad there was a happier ending to it all. I will say the second volume does maybe get too ambitious and the plot gets outright confusing at times, but for a debut story this isn’t bad at all. And it was just announced the day I read this (Feb. 4, 2023) that it’s being licensed in English by VIZ, so if you’re into some that’s downright nihilistic but has a unique premise, give this a shot when it gets distributed in the Fall.

If you wanna read more about my overall thoughts on this story, I have another review for the other book.

I do still like these books overall, but I personally feel the second half is weaker than the first (though admittedly, I wasnt really paying a lot of attention to where that line is)

It's not that nothing interesting happens.... Because they do! But I felt it felt sort of rushed and forced towards the end.... Endings are hard, I feel I'm rarely satisfied with them... But at the same time, for a story about how complicated sadness and happiness is, I feel like it was resolved all too quickly. Or maybe I'm just not getting the point.

Also, I forgot to say before... I really like the part where the mother is begging takopi to bring her daughter back after he pretends to be her... I think sometimes abusive parents in stories are always completely blind to those things, or don't care. It's sort of refreshing to see an abusive mother who also has a deep love for her daughter in her own way. I think that's closer to the realities I've seen, though both do exist.
