The Dirt probably contained anything you need to know about Motley Crue. There, they sang the praises of a hedonistic lifestyle, and all (with the possible exception of Mick Mars) came off looking like douchebags. This book is Nikki Sixx feeling sorry for himself. Too bad, so sad. It's hard for me to care about millionaire rock stars who got hooked on drugs.
I’m sad I’m going to Dnf this book. I’m kinda obsessed with Nikki Sixx right now but I set this book down and just don’t want to pick it back up. Maybe I’ll try again
I read this after I read The Dirt, even though this came out first. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much, possibly because all of it was depressing. Mad kudos to Nikki for getting and staying clean. I completely respect him putting himself out there in this unflattering light to help and inspire others.
If you are a Motley Crue fan, I recommend this book, more for some insight on your fave band members, if you're curious about how addiction looks like - I highly recommend it.

๏ My Thoughts ๏
I just watched The Dirt on Netflix and read the book quite some time ago. Nikki Sixx's heroin addiction is touched on but not fully explored in The Dirt, but this puts his downward spiral on full-display. With Nikki narrating his own diary entries, this played out exceptionally well, coming from him, it feels so real, raw and completely compelling.
Do you have to love Motley Crue to get into this, no, but it probably helps? I don't necessarily love the Crue, but I really like them, I've seen them in concert even...and I do love 80's music in general, especially from those infamous hair bands. It's crazy to see how rampant cocaine and heroin were back then, especially when you're famous and so many people think you can do no wrong.
This edition that I listened to is a Tenth Anniversary edition with a forward and afterward from Nikki Sixx about how releasing this book has affected him, all very interesting...and apparently, there are addicts who say this book has changed their lives for the better and helped them to break their habit. If that's true then this book is completely worthwhile.

But on to the book...the book is...well...very, very, intriguing. It's a diary so it is extremely interesting to read. To top it off, there are first-hand accounts relating to the diary entries. It is mind-boggling to read but it certainly is entertaining.

To this day, The Heroin Diaries is one of my favourite books of all time. I read this book in Grade 12 (so 5 1/2 years ago...wow time flies) and I still love it just as much as I did when I read it back then. It was just so real, like you were living right next to Nikki Sixx. If anything, this book scared me straight out of even THINKING about doing hard drugs and I can only imagine what it has positively done for those who were/are struggling with substance abuse. I highly recommend this book.
