This series may not be perfect but it's exactly my cup of tea. Strong main character, gorgeous Scottish wilderness setting, mouthwatering tension between two love interests. The action was insane, my butthole was clenched for like 200 pages. A few twists genuinely surprised me.

I feel like Aurora would have fallen for any nice guy she came across, it just happened to be Callum who came first. Their arc is lovely and realistic. While in book one it was relatively safe and easy, book two brings more challenges to their relationship. Aurora grows increasingly tired of his white knight act in an era of her life where she's trying to be strong and independent. Callum would rather she stay locked away and safe, while she wants to be free, even if that means making mistakes that ultimately may harm her.

Blake and the old kitchen lady are the only people who give it to Aurora straight without being cruel. They treat her as if her status as a princess and the fact she's banging an alpha don't mean anything at all. Those characters are a real breath of fresh air.

Also, I love Lochlan's introduction and I really hope he plays a larger part in book 3!

As for some critiques, I'm a little fuzzy on what the Heart of the Moon's powers actually are. She killed a big shadow snake by melting it with light, and can supposedly make wolves turn without a full moon, which we have yet to see. But what can she do with it, besides try and kill Night's prisoners if they show up? The real problem is the war between humans and wolves, and both sides are deeply flawed and unwilling to just let things be. So I don't really know what a happy ending looks like here.

Also, I wish more of Blake's humor from the first book was present here. He was essentially repeating "I know something you don't know" to Aurora and it was a bit much. He's still more multi dimensional than Callum but if he cared so much about Aurora I wish he would trust her with the smallest bit of information without making her beg for it. No wonder shes so frustrated.

With how high the stakes are in these books, it's a bit unrealistic that no one important died yet. We were expecting James to die after Callum fought him, but Callum decided to just let him run away. I feel like there's a ton of tension but not always an equal amount of consequence for the character's choices. Even with Aurora's romantic relationships, they never really go all the way in this book. Callum won't give Aurora what she wants in bed, but she won't get with Blake. Aurora and Callum fight, but don't exactly break up. They both kinda admit things aren't working but say they'll always fight for each other.

All in all I thought this was hot and enjoyed the hell out of it.

I liked the concept again but it was way too predictable and I do sort of wonder how they'll make it work out next because it was a little too obvious. But, again, liked the world, look forward to seeing how this all wraps, assuming it's only 3 books.

I know they are wolfs but the amount of times she mentioned being able to feel someone’s body heat while they stand beside her. I’ve not experienced this or maybe the people I know just aren’t furnaces. It’s also heavily giving acotar but I don’t mind it wish the would have got on with the switch earlier though.

“We do not let go. We unleash.”

This took me a minute to get through but it I ended up really liking it!! It was a good audio but I think I might have been more hooked on the story if I read it with my eyeballs. Some predictable twists but also some I definitely didn’t see coming!!

Also “Just once.” 🥵🥵🥵
