Prince Harry

The Royal Family, as a whole, has always been an entity that intrigued me. They play out like a television drama and it’s fascinating until you realize that it’s someone’s life at the end of the day. They’re real people who experience complicated dynamics, dramas, and emotions with the unfortunate circumstances of it being their daily life.

I don’t have any strong emotions or opinions about former Prince Harry, I actually just kind of feel bad because it’s obvious this life is not what he ever would’ve chosen for himself. He very much resents that this is what his life is and has been trying to hold it together without cracking in front of the lens that magnifies his life all across the media.

Personally my favorite section of the memoir was the section about his time in the Military. It felt raw but still resigned, which is understandable.

There are a few details throughout the book that I definitely could have done without and that could have been omitted. The structure of this book is kind of strange, but overall The contents inside of it are fascinating.

Not the most engaging memoir I've read, the war and Africa stuff didn't interest me much. The last 25% was good, once Megan came into the picture I was much more interested!

I’m so conflicted on not only this book, but the Harry/Meghan perspective in general.

This memoir is very raw. It tells the story of someone that didn't have a easy childhood with his mother dying and many exoectations set upon him. Then comes the added factor of the public and the media.
It tells the story of war, of finding love and a place in life. In the end it's a story of escaping the pressure and making a quiet life for himself and his family.

This book serves as a powerful critique of the media's intrusive behavior into celebrities' personal lives. Initially, I anticipated controversy, assuming Prince Harry would reveal damning secrets about the royal family, as the media had suggested. However, upon reading the book, I discovered it to be a straightforward autobiography with not much controversial revelations, except for shedding light on the media's unjust treatment of the royals and some of the usual disparities exists inside family relations.

In this world, there are two distinct groups: the privileged, like the royal family, and the average individuals. Despite their privileged status, the royals are just as human as the rest of us, experiencing a wide range of emotions and facing their own unique challenges.

'Spare' taught me that even with their privilege, the royal family holds less power than we might assume. They must dutifully adhere to both written and unwritten rules and regulations within the palace.

Having read the entire book, I came to realize how fortunate I am in comparison to famous individuals. While we might think they possess everything a common man dreams of, their lives can be akin to living in a gilded cage, devoid of true freedom.

This book is one such book which covers the ‘normal’ life of a privileged man. But Harry is brave, brave enough to write his heart out instead of keeping all his privileged life a secret. In my perspective, Harry is a rebel. He lived the life as a ‘Spare’ and all his disappointment, happiness, everything comes out in this form of this book.

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this and learning about Prince Harry’s story as I never really followed his and Megan’s story. I totally bought into the narrative of Harry being a goof but wow has he been through so much trauma! A great listen too as an audiobook.
