Spare

Prince Harry

3.79 AVERAGE

I was the shadow, the support, the Plan B. I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy. I was summoned to provide backup, distraction, diversion and, if necessary, a spare part. Kidney, perhaps. Blood transfusion. Speck of bone marrow. This was all made explicitly clear to me from the start of life’s journey and regularly reinforced thereafter.

This was a very personal memoir about Prince Harry's life which made me actually think that I now know more of who he is, not just as a royal, but as a human. Despite my disinterest in the Royal family, Harry's book helped me with understanding their daily lives, and especially, his own.
Sadly, most of the book was not that interesting for me. It was very informative, sure, but definitely not the genre I normally read and I really stepped out of my comfort zone for this one. And with nothing crazy interesting (fantasy-, action- or romance-wise) happening, it was a bit rough to go through.
However, I must admit that I understand why this is on the bestseller list. In no other book will you get such honest and detailed thoughts of the British royal family than in this one. And Prince Harry is very truthful in everything he thought, did and said throughout his life.

DNF around Chapter 8. Just couldn't get interested- maybe oversaturated with their story.

I hope Harry’s back is ok from carrying the weight of breaking his family’s generational trauma.

I was a bit nervous about reading a non-fiction book but I genuinely enjoyed reading this (although I did struggle trying to figure out what he was talking about when it came to military stuff).

I can’t imagine what it’s like having a family so emotionally distant. I do however know that breaking the cycle of generational trauma is incredibly difficult, especially if you’re doing it alone.

I have much respect for him and all he’s doing to prioritise himself and his family’s happiness and safety, he clearly loves them dearly.

Anyone who willingly writes about their penis being frostbitten and thinking of their mother while they rub a salve into it and then PUBLISHES that in their book gets a 5⭐ from me babey. Thoroughly enjoyed, will definitely reread eventually.

If even 50% of this is true, that's absolutely no way to live life. I can't think of anything worse than to be forced into "royalty" (whatever that means). It's good to know that almost everyone out there has a difficult family and that's not unique to just a few.

Harry seems pretty brainless.
