Because of the notoriety of this novel, I was shocked at how short it was. Like, only a third of the pages was the novel, and the rest was introduction and afterword. (But I was also glad, because there are so many books I have to read.)
The story is legendary, so I was expecting more suspense and horror, but you know... the writing is amazing...I remember being awestruck at this one sentence about time passing. I'm very glad I read it, and I plant to read more Robert Louis Stevenson, not just to get "cultured and learned" (my pathetic, original plan), but to really enjoy his use of words.

The ‘duality of man’ is basically a meme at this point, but I imagine this novella must have been shocking in Victorian England, they were famously quite repressed as a society.
I initially wondered what could have possessed Dr Jekyll to do what he did (yes, the book is 139 years old and has influenced pop culture, but I’ll avoid spoilers), and when he explains himself in the end… the man just wanted to let loose, I get it.

A good, quick read.

I really liked the ending "speech", and the moral of the book.
sometimes, we all want to give in to the temptations of being terrible without consequence. but do it enough and soon thats who you become. You must also consider that you dont repress those negative aspects of yourself as well, as that can also result in internal consequences. Basically,  humans are complicated! There is no easy way around it.

Its a classic, and like I said - it's quick too. I enjoyed my time with it.
