Of Triton was pretty good. I guess it helps going into a book with zero expectations. I just hate being disappointed by books. However, I wasn't really disappointed in this one.
So this is the second book in this series and thank god it didn't fall into the second book kind of slump. I just love Emma and Galen's relationship but other than that I really like Toraf and Rayan's too. Now this was fun to see Grom and Nalia's relationship because I almost forgot about them sort of being a couple since the novella. Boy did I feel bad that I forgot about them and I was so happy that those two got their happy ending!
The ending was cute and it kind of threw me off a little bit. I want to know if they are actually going to go somewhere, like the mountains, but I also have no idea what to expect in the next book or novella. I also want to see more of Rayan and Toraf's relationship - even though I know that this is about Emma and Galen.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series because I just want to finish it so badly but I also don't want to set up expectations for the rest of this series. I'm enjoying it so much that I don't want to be let down.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I liked it. Although I liked the first book way better I would totally recommend this series to anyone. I just think Anna Banks has a way with words when it comes to talking about mermaids.

I jumped right into these books without having read the first book. At first I was not sure if I would be able to jump right in as I started reading. However the author I thought did a good job with a quick summary of the prior events that I was able to read this book with ease. I was able to figure out who was who and their connections or relationships with each other.
Galen and Emma made a cute couple. It was on the sweet side versus a heavily, steamy one.
While I did like the rest of the other characters, I probably was not as fully invested in them as I might or should have been had I started with reading the first book. Another issue I had was that I wanted to see more of the undersea world. Yet I was able to still blaze through this book with quick speed.

Too juvenile. Just couldn't stand the rationalizing of too many things between characters.
I thought the book was good about halfway through. up until then the book was really slow and seemed to just drag on. I had such high expectations for the book because if how much I liked the first one, but I was disappointed.
Definitely was a great second book! Sometimes the second book in a series is boring and full of filler, but this book was non stop! It was a quick read! I could not put it down! More romance in this one ^.^
Though I am curious what the third book will be about! what could possibly happen!
This book I feel fixed everything!
I guess I need to go read the third book!

4.5/5 stars.
Can we all just take a minute to swoon over that cover? I mean, SERIOUSLY. These books have the best covers. ♥
Right. ANYWAY. Of Triton picks up right where Of Poseidon left off, which is good for those of us who didn't like the cliffhanger-ish ending. NOTE: I am going to attempt to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible for the series. Hopefully you avoided the summary for this book, because it basically renders reading Of Poseidon obsolete if you didn't!
I am the first to admit that I had some pretty significant issues with Of Poseidon. I felt like it was just too typical YA paranormal for my taste, complete with a love interest who likes to tell Emma what to do and enjoys making her blush in embarrassment. However, Of Triton was pretty much the complete opposite of the first book. I really felt like the author matured in her writing - which continues to be witty and funny, with some laugh-out-loud moments - and got away from the checklist that so many YA paranormal writers seem to use. Emma really grew as a character, relying on her own judgement to make her decisions instead of just allowing Galen to decide what she should and shouldn't do. The set-up for Of Triton meant that Galen and Emma spent quite a lot of time away from each other, and I really loved the fact that Emma didn't just sit around moping. She used the time away to really think about her situation and what she wanted, and I give her major props for that.
The reader also gets fully immersed in the world of the Syrena, which - while I had some issues with aspects of their lives in the first book - is a really well-designed and thought-out world. This book allows us an inside look at the proceedings and laws that govern this underwater world, and I personally found it all quite fascinating. There was a lot of underhanded political maneuvering going on which put Galen and his family in quite a lot of danger, and I just really loved watching the twists and turns and grasps for power. This book had a very "edge of your seat" feel to it, even when it was just Emma going to school. There was an underlying tension and sense of danger that was written into the story in such a way that I, personally, found it very difficult to put the book down. I read it in nearly one go.
All in all, Of Triton was a massive step up in every single category from Of Poseidon. I really felt like the book was its own unique concept, and loved the fact that Emma was allowed some space for personal growth. The romance was made even more swoon-worthy because of Emma's decisions, and I found myself liking both her and Galen much more than I had previously. I am curious as to why there's a third book in this series, though, as things seemed wrapped up quite nicely. Considering how much more I liked this book than its predecessor, though, I will definitely be checking it out!

I don't really know how to rate this because I think I just no longer fit in the demographic that reads this type of book. Younger me would have enjoyed it but there are just too many things that eek me out.
I would recommend for people who:
- like YA fantasy/urban fantasy romance books that follow the typical trilogy layout
- Prefer no/very limited swearing (I can't recall any)
I wouldn't recommend for people who:
- Want something new and different
- Appreciate realistic portrayals of teenagers (seriously I don't think that much has changed in 10 years, mc does not act like a normal teen)

This was a great follow up to [b:Of Poseidon|12425532|Of Poseidon (The Syrena Legacy, #1)|Anna Banks|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327879889s/12425532.jpg|17375535]. The world continues to be developed and brought to life. I was so fully sucked into this story that I read it all in 3 hours. I loved it.
It seems like Banks kind of "sacrificed" the first book in order to set-up conflict and character redemption in Of Triton. I'm not sure this was the best game plan. I know a ton of people couldn't wade through all of the misogyny in the first book in order to even get to the second. If they did, they may have chose not to continue the series.
I am a little confused as to why a third book was needed. Everything was tied up in this one. I'm hoping that whatever new arc the third book holds doesn't seem forced. This honestly, could have been a conclusion. So we will see.
