Disappointing sequel. The fire is gone and the sparks have fizzled.

3.5 ⭐️
it was good but i honestly could’ve just read the first book and been fine. probably not going to read the third one

Honestly, there is literally no way this book could possibly be any better. I came in with high expectations for this book because of how much I enjoyed Of Poseidon, and this book exceeded those high expectations.

Beautifully written with humor, suspense, and the perfect amount of romance to tug at all the right heartstrings; Anna Banks has succeeded at carrying out the wonders of this intriguing world she's created.

There's only one thing left to say: Read it.
adventurous emotional tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The plot of this book took a different turn than I was expecting. Normally, in second books of a trilogy, there's some sort of disagreement between the main love interests that seems to be un-resolve-able. The readers hearts are broken and they are pushed to read the third book. With this book, though, I do not really feel compelled to read the last book; I feel that most of the loose ends were resolved (or on course to be resolved), which leads me to wonder why there's even a third book. Everything was wrapped up with a pretty little bow and everything. I just hope this isn't a re-run of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones series, which should have ended with book 3.

A lot happened in this book, but overall it seemed more of an outline than a story. I wish Anna Banks hadn't confined herself to a certain number of pages and instead written with the detail required in order to keep the emotional bonds that readers created with the characters in the first book. There were a lot of major plot events squished into this small book. I may have been better to be spread over 2 books or at least make this one longer. While reading this book, I felt completely disjoint and separated from the characters and their emotions--a complete turnaround from my feelings after the first book. I now feel indifferent towards the series.

Writing style? As I said before, it was lacking in details, but otherwise seemed to flow naturally. Everything seemed way more cliche.

Plot? What it lacked in plot it made up for in nothing: the characters weren't as deep (in fact, they seemed even shallower), the setting was thrown together, and decisions were sporadic. There could have been way more details included in major plot events to take away from the outline feel of the story. It was difficult to connect and uninteresting to read. I'm still complaining about Reina, who just whines the entire time. It seems that every single person has major flaws except for Gaelen (sp.--sorry, I listen to the audiobook so I don't read the spellings), who is just perfect. Unrealistic. He can't do everything right all the time because no one does that, and yet here he is, Mr. High and Mighty I'm Gonna Leave My Entire Inheritance To Follow You.

My thoughts are still jumbled about this, so maybe I'll come back later and revise this. It's difficult to pin down exactly what I didn't like about it.

Update: It's been a couple days and I finally pinned down what I didn't like about this book: everything was *WAY* too easy. There was little to no resistance on major, potentially game-changing plot features, but because everything was so easy-breezy, I never felt that pull to keep reading and find out if everything was going to work right or not, because I knew it would be fine even before the problem presented itself. Everything just worked perfectly, best-case-scenario all the time, and that bothered me. I'm halfway through the third book now, and because of that major disconnect I felt while reading this book, it's been really hard to get into the third book as much as the first--the connection is lacking.

It took a lot longer to finish this book even though it was shorter. I really like this book, a few unexpected twists, I hope we see a bigger plot in Of Neptune.

Update: I read the second book for the second time in less than half a day.

Love the cover, love the characters, love the story. Listened to the audiobook and love the narrator.

onestamente mi aspettavo qualcosina di più, in realtà tutto il libro non è nient'altro che un epilogo del libro precedente, tutto si risolve in fretta e buonanotte.

non so neanche se sono felice che ci sia un terzo libro, ma vedremo.
