Hmmmm... I liked the plot twist and didn't expect it but overall, the book was clunky. The characters were inconsistent at times and it was very long, considering that not a lot happened.
A lot of people commented in their reviews that they didn't like Cisi's chapters. On the contrary, those were the chapters I liked the best. She was such a nuanced character - she had to watch her father die and brothers get taken, just like Akos, and she had a deadly fate but she still managed to be pretty normal. It was also interesting to see her try to overcome her gift's limitations. I didn't like how the last chapter made it seem like she was manipulating Isae's ruling of the planet. She didn't have any malicious intention; she used her gift to allow Isae's better judgement to prevail in her decision-making.
I am not sure if the author is leaving things open for a spin-off (a la all of those Four books) but I really didn't like the ending for Eijah. It was completely open-ended and although Eijah didn't have much of a personality, I wanted him to be saved for Akos' and the rest of his family's sake. Very unsatisfying.
Spoiler
I think the solution to "dying for the family Noavek" was a bit of a cop-out. Did Cyra actually die? I didn't think she did. While I always like when main characters get to live, it seemed like cheating. Same thing with Cisi "succumbing" but not actually succumbing. to the knife.A lot of people commented in their reviews that they didn't like Cisi's chapters.

The sequel for the Carve the Mark really carved a special place. The emotions running high and life altering decision to be taken at many instances really were very well written.
The bonding Cyra makes slowly and her expectation towards Akos and his agenda were just enough without over exaggerating the relationship. Though we all had a slight doubt regarding what the life altering truth could be when it was revealed it actually made sense. And moreover it didn't matter though. Akos and Cyra were the same people from the beginning hardened by their encounters and lives they have lost. And softened by the people around them and their help and bonding.
I in particular liked the way how everyone was connected to the ending. Akos, Cyra, Eijeh, Isae,Cisi and Lazmet. The other characters too were involved in a way that the showdown really mattered more and the future was what that was supposed to happen without flatly making a happily ever after.
I am liking Cyra more than Tris in Divergent the only resemblance being their mettle at the hardest times and the fragility which they hide from everyone except the one being loved.
Fates divide really took a long time to finish but a worthy read for me!
