I LOVED Matteo so much , I loved him way more than gianna because honestly she was just overdoing it , I get that she swore to never love a man who kills or whatever but Matteo was trying to make it work but she wasn't budging. But overall the book was good and it wasn't bad. I'll stop yapping and say what the book was about:

This book follows a girl named Gianna and a guy named Matteo , Gianna had always wanted to experience and live the normal human life but being born in a mafia family had stopped her from doing so. She had always craved and loved the idea of freedom , she is a wild soul and someone who isn't afraid to speak up,she is also a person who swore to never marry into a loveless marriage even if her father had forced her , because she didn't wanna follow into her sisters footsteps.

Matteo is a simple guy , he likes to kill and hunt , if he ever sets his mind upon something or someone he will hunt them / it down no matter the challenge that he will face , and no matter how much people will try to stop him. And that's what happens with him and Gianna. He saw her and saw her big mouth  , saw a girl who wasnt afraid to break rules and he set his mind on her.

And so he asks for her hand in marriage , of course Gianna refused but she didn't have a voice in this does she? No , so she decides to run away. Before her marriage to Matteo she ran away for 6 months until Matteo finally found her and killed off her boyfriend.

Ok, here we go...

As soon as I finished the book I gave it 3.7 stars but I couldn't write the review at the time. Now I sat down to write it and I already had time to think and my almost hate towards Gianna does not deserve that many stars, so I lower it to 2.7 stars. I really understand what she says and thinks but none of it justifies the way that she acts, speaks and, well, her completely. I've been talking about reading her book since I read Bound by Honor because I hoped I would finally like her but I only got the opposite.

"Oh but it's not just her book, what about Matteo?"
I like him. Weirdly, I do. Of course, I don't LOVE him or anything like that, it's just that near Gianna it's hard to not like other people. But he's not all that either, just to make that very clear. Even though we also get his point of view I feel like it was just Gianna's book, completely character-driven.
This book can be defined by:
Gianna, Gianna being a huge pain in the ass, sex, Gianna making me roll my eyes in frustration, sex, Matteo showing a human and loveable side, please I can't take more Gianna, sex, Matteo and Gianna kinda being a couple, sex, can't we focus on Aria and Luca please?, sex, GIVE ME ARIA AND LUCA, more Gianna, and then, Gianna and Matteo.
Basically, I don't recommend it... I'm thinking about lowering the rating already.

OH, important to say, I spent the WHOLE book thinking about Aria and Luca in the middle of it all. Everything that happened I imagined "oh, how are Luca and Aria dealing with it?", wanting their side, their point of view, and didn't care about Gianna and Matteo. That's extremely bad since it is THEIR book.

Maybe I'm the problem, maybe it's because I don't like enemies-to-lovers. But I'll go with 2.28 stars.

i like matteogianna a lot and i think they are really good together, but this book was so underwhelming considering how good it could/should have been with such a strong main couple.... the plot fell flat, things progressed like boxes being checked off a to-do list instead of emotionally investing events, and as much as i like their relationship and dynamic, the development of their relationship had absolutely no pull to it. again, it was just emotionless even when the characters are allegedly experiencing strong emotions. ages ago i saw some tweet that was like "meek mill raps like he has to crack open a fortune cookie to read each lyric". this book was exactly like that imo. no natural progression or convincing moments, just crossing things off a list. the best way to describe how this book felt is "robotic". matteogianna was so cheated considering how good their book should have been and how good they should be together.

also i get that this is an edgy mafia book and the last book already established that of course the mafia is violently homophobic, but luca dropping the f slur on-page felt excessive to me, as a wlw. We already know they hate gays!! you didn't have to go there to prove it! especially considering that when luca said the f slur nobody batted an eye but later when he called gianna a bitch for (as far as he knew) not doing anything to save matteo's life until offered payment, THEN it was a problem..... HUH . how is that worse or even remotely equivalent.
