i like matteogianna a lot and i think they are really good together, but this book was so underwhelming considering how good it could/should have been with such a strong main couple.... the plot fell flat, things progressed like boxes being checked off a to-do list instead of emotionally investing events, and as much as i like their relationship and dynamic, the development of their relationship had absolutely no pull to it. again, it was just emotionless even when the characters are allegedly experiencing strong emotions. ages ago i saw some tweet that was like "meek mill raps like he has to crack open a fortune cookie to read each lyric". this book was exactly like that imo. no natural progression or convincing moments, just crossing things off a list. the best way to describe how this book felt is "robotic". matteogianna was so cheated considering how good their book should have been and how good they should be together.

also i get that this is an edgy mafia book and the last book already established that of course the mafia is violently homophobic, but luca dropping the f slur on-page felt excessive to me, as a wlw. We already know they hate gays!! you didn't have to go there to prove it! especially considering that when luca said the f slur nobody batted an eye but later when he called gianna a bitch for (as far as he knew) not doing anything to save matteo's life until offered payment, THEN it was a problem..... HUH . how is that worse or even remotely equivalent.
