This was a really enjoyable and quick read!
Let’s start with the things I liked, which were many. It is easy to get through and the pace is good. I didn’t think it dragged at any point. I loved the setting and the wedding aspect, and I thought the main characters were rounded. I actually had a lot of fun!!
A few things I didn’t like as much:
-The writing wasn’t the best. The dialogues didn’t blend well with the narration and it sometimes took me out of the story.
-It felt very romance-y in style. I love romance but I felt this book needed something different for the literary fiction to work well.
-I was enjoying all of the side plots, but many of them were not fully developed at the end. I like an open ending as long as it makes sense, but I felt that in this story some of the side characters should’ve had their stories told until the end.
-This book is very basic. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely has some good social commentary, but it didn’t expand beyond the main character. A few discussions here and there about money, but nothing actually worthwhile. Some comments on feminism that landed better but still didn’t really hit. And nothing on class, which I think could have worked very well in a literary fiction story taking place during a wedding week.
I should add that this book focuses a lot on infertility issues and family dynamics, and I think it does a good job depicting those themes from a woman’s perspective.
-The cast of characters isn’t diverse at all, which yes, can be okay, but it makes the story feel not as realistic or relatable, I’d say.
Overall, I do actually recommend the book!! The fact that it didn’t change my life doesn’t mean that it wasn’t worth reading✨
