While the turnaround that Phoebe experiences from the start of the book

and wanting to kill herself

to the end in the span of all of 1 week is a bit fast to be entirely believable, I do like the concept of this - I just think the depth from which Phoebe has to climb is not exactly possible in that timespan. 

Having said that, this cast of characters is wonderful. I started out not liking some of the characters, but what do you know? They just hide things under the surface. The role of Phoebe in this book, of being the safe outsider they will not see again anyway and do not know, is interesting for that reason. 

This book is very human, at its core. It shows how things can move the wrong way and how easy it is to close your eyes to it and tell yourself it will be okay, and what is sometimes necessary to shock you away from that.

I went into this book without really knowing what it’s about, so when I first started reading I became very intrigued with the premise. While I enjoyed it, I found some of the characters to be a bit one- dimensional and some of the conversations felt unrealistic and unnatural. Overall, I did enjoy the core messages of the book.
