the book is stylistically beautiful. there is a significant melancholic vibe that pierces through the entire novel. the author can make you truly feel the sadness; it weighed heavily on the plot and on me too. i love the framing of the book - the painting becoming increasingly significant.

however, maybe the book is not for me. if you like character-driven, slow-paced & meandering plot, this is for you. reading this book felt like i was in someone’s memory drive - i was being thrown into snippets of their lives that end as soon as they began. but thats all there is - there is no development, the connections between the characters are not fully looked into. you are just TOLD that they have this intense connection of sort but you don’t know why. the brevity of the book left the book feeling a bit empty, it almost felt like a preliminary draft im reading.
