Nothing to do with the content of the book, but listening to the audio, it was jarring to hear a girl who was born and raised in Warwickshire speak with a Yorkshire accent.

All the protagonists are interesting characters. The issues each has are appropriate for the time period in which they live. The story is a bit cliche, with expected endings for each, but it is an enjoyable read. At first, it was a little difficult to keep track of the main characters because there are three different time periods/storylines that link together. But after a while, each story became more distinct, and it was easier to transition between them at each new chapter. A good read when you want something historical but not too emotionally challenging.

I loved this triple timeline historical fiction that spanned multiple generations of women connected by a single garden. The family tree is so twisted that I actually had to write out a diagram to figure out who is related to who! This story shows how far we have come in women’s rights and how brave women fought to live the lives they wanted.
Quick review as I downloaded a bunch to take on a vacation without internet and read them without reviewing immediately — details are fuzzy. This has a complicated plot following three timelines of strong women interacting with the same garden property. They were braided together deftly. The women felt true to their time period to me. And I liked them. Glad I read it. All I can remember.

This is one of those books that I'd recommend as a physical copy rather than an audiobook. The author switches between 5 or so points of view, in 3 different time periods, and I struggled to keep up in the audiobook.
However, I was still pretty fascinated by the story and enjoyed getting to know each character and what life was like for them in their time period and social class. It's woven together quite nicely at the end- a story of loss and love.
The descriptions of the garden and various plants were soothing, but I wouldn't call this a cozy read, which is what I was originally expecting. I'd recommend this book if you enjoy multi timelines, light romance, WWII historical fiction, and generally happy and satisfying endings.

Graphic: Child death, Miscarriage, Misogyny, Grief, War, Classism
Moderate: Pregnancy, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Death, Vomit, Death of parent, Abandonment
This was a lovely story about three generations of women all tied to the same garden. Their loves, challenges, losses and redemptions make an enjoyable read. The middle generation seemed a bit disjointed with much less connection to the gardens, but it still fit.
