I was caught up in the story and led into tragedy and it felt exactly the same as watching Downton abbey. The star crossed romance among wartime history and the folk garden subject lent magic to the story. All the female leads were distinct and likable in their own way. The voice actors were so good. This is the sort of book I’d probably read again.

Read this just after binging Downton Abbey for the first time, perfect bridge for coming back to reading for me. Loved Diana's and Venetias Story (Venetias story was probably a bit too predictable, but I loved her self sufficiency and how sure of herself she was)

The slow ramp-up pays off! The ending is deeply satisfying.
Kelly weaves together 3 time periods and 5 (main) characters beautifully. The first 2/3rds of the book have a slower pace that allows full character development. The ending ties up all the little mysteries and loose ends.
The imagery is amazing, I could see the gardens in my mind!
If you like Kate Morton this book is perfect (or if you love this book check out Kate Morton’s The Forgotten Garden).

A really sweet, clean book. This was a great summer read. This story is told in three different timelines, through five different narrators. Although it can be a little difficult to keep each voice straight, each character is well-developed and interesting.
