I enjoyed this multiple perspective historical fiction. At its heart it’s about a garden (no surprises there) and three generations of women who are impacted by it. There were a few little things that bothered me, but not enough to prevent me from enjoying the story and characters.
This book had kind of a slow middle and a bunch of characters in different time periods that made it a bit hard to follow at first. However, once I got to page 150 of this book it was hard to put it down and I really enjoyed it.
This story has something for everyone. A little Downton Abbey, a little romance, a little intrigue, a little contemporary.
On the surface, the story follows 5 women over different time periods looking for something that is missing in their lives. In reality, the main character in the story is the garden and it’s secrets. The author brings it to life with vivid descriptions. It’s almost like you are there.
It’s a beautiful story and so well written. I loved it and it was another book I couldn’t put down.

Oh gosh, I loved this. It's about as close to a 5-star read as I can get without actually giving it 5 stars (though the longer I sit with it maybe those stars will bump up).
I devoured the first few chapters and enjoyed the rest of the book/story, though the parallels between the women and historical periods seemed a bit contrived at times. Recommended for anyone who loves gardening and/or history.
Centered around the fictional Highbury House gardens, Julia Kelly takes the reader on a fascinating journey through these elaborate gardens across the span of over a century. Set in a triple timeline format, 1907, 1944, and 2021, The Last Garden in England follows five women whose lives are interwoven with the house and particularly the gardens. Kelly brings the gardens to life, and I often felt that I was right there with the characters among the plants and flowers due to her creative and beautiful descriptions. She uses just the right amount of detail, and it is easily apparent how much research Kelly conducted. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
