Before I started reading a book a day and blogging, my go to author was always Jill Shalvis. I can't even count the number of books of hers that I've read, but I can guarantee that I've enjoyed each and every one of them. She always writes the most fun, simple romances that are full of heart and heat. This book is no exception.
It was very easy to fall in love with Aiden and his rugged, protective nature. From the very beginning it's clear that his family means everything to him. He's the guy who doesn't trust easily, but if you ever earn it from him, you'll also earn his undying loyalty. If that's not the makings for a perfect BBF, I'm not sure what is.
Lily is sweet, strong and independent but doesn't feel worthy of love and happiness. The second the two of them reconnect it's obvious that they both have residual feelings from their relationship that almost was.
Aiden is pretty forthcoming with his feelings and expectations but still holds back a little out of fear of being left behind again. Lily knows what she feels but it's gonna take a little more to convince her that she deserves it.
Their journey to happy ever after is, rocky (pun intended), but perfect all the same. With Aiden's family & friend Mitch and Lily's best friend Jonathan rounding the amazing cast of characters in Cedar Ridge, some crazy rescue stories that will leave you, and maybe Aiden, in stitches, and a beautiful landscape to read about, this looks to be a new favorite series of mine.

New series from Jill Shalvis. An okay start but I wasn't really feeling this particular book. I have a feeling other Shalvis fans may disagree. Definitely not bad enough for me to give up on the series.
The Kincaid family is an unusual one. Aidan and his brother, Gray, found out later in life that his father had two other families, twin boys and a girl. Eventually, all of the sibling ended up living with his mother. Their father was nowhere in sight. Now the family is struggling because their father mortgaged the family resort. When he sees that ex-flame Lily is back in town, he's stoked to see her.
Lily Danville is back in Cedar Ridge, not by her own doing. Her boss in San Diego had ordered her to leak some gossip to the press and then not only fired her, but blackballed her, when it all went south. Now Cedar Ridge Resort, working for her best friend Jonathon, is her only option. Even though it's the place where she lost both her sister and her father. And that was part of my problem with the story, how she worked her way through that (not a spoiler, this is a romance people). She is not very happy to see Aidan. He was a big part of the worst part of her life. Just because he's a super-hot firefighter/search and rescue dude doesn't mean that she's going to fall into bed with him. Except that, again, romance novel.
As I mentioned at the beginning, an okay story but I really didn't feel like Lily worked through her issues. There was more than a whiff of "magic wang" about this story.

Second Chance Summer is the first book of Jill Shalvis's new series, Cedar Ridge. As I keep saying it that I love Jill Shalvis, there was no surprise when I picked this book as soon as it was released. And it was indeed a great read!
Jill Shalvis has a knack of creating these perfect, adorable towns. Like Lucky Harbor, I fell in love with this town Cedar Ridge based in Colorado.
Lily Danville has returned to Cedar Ridge after a decade. When some tragic occur accidents in her life Lily can't cope up with those and she gives up living in the town and goes to San Diego. When she runs into trouble there and is out of job, after ten years she is forced to return to Cedar Ridge as her friend Jonathan offers her a job.
Aidan Kincaid is a firefighter and volunteers for the local Search-and-Rescue team. He lives with his family in his family's Cedar Ridge Resort. The resort is struggling so he and his brothers are doing everything to save the family resort. He is very protective of his family. Aidan always had a thing for Lily but when she left town abruptly he was hurt, so when she returns to town, he tries to keep his distance from her and not get too emotionally involved but he can't stop himself from wanting to help and protect Lily.
Lily always had a crush on Aidan but due to some misunderstandings, she wants to keep distance but it doesn't happen that way of course. Her encounters with Aidan are pretty funny too. But they have great chemistry and so they can't stay away from each other. After some communication everything works out in the end.
I loved the story. Aidan and Lily were great, I quite liked Aidan's family as well. It was a great start to the series. I am looking forward to the next book. If you are looking for a Jill Shalvis book to read, Second Chance Summer is for you.
Some of my favourite quotes:
*
“He remembered kissing her… falling for her.
Then how she’d left the mountain without looking back, forgetting about him with shocking, heartbreaking ease.
Now she was back. And she’d kissed him like maybe she hadn’t forgotten him after all...”
*
“You’re not a job to me, Lily. Not even close. You’re more. And I think I’m more to you too. I think it’s not that you don’t feel anything, it’s that you feel too much. I scare you.”
*
“There were some men who just knew how to kiss, the kind of kiss that could send a woman reeling. The kind of kiss that could take away problems and awareness and … and everything. The kind of kiss that could shatter her into a trillion little pieces. The kind of kiss that somehow both calmed her body and soul even as it wound her up for more. Aidan was that kind of kisser.”

I loved it! I read it in less than twelve hours. I couldn't read it fast enough. The heat, sigh. The elegant writing and wit, loved! Now I sit and wait until the next one comes out.
Okay, now that I've gotten 8 hours of sleep under my belt—and some lovely dreams inspired by this book—I'll say that I loved every minute of it! I received an advance copy of this book via a contest and was absolutely thrilled when it arrived. Some people might be concerned that this will be too similar to Shalvis' Wilder brothers series, but it's not. I found this book to be fresh and new, not to mention funny. I loved Aidan and Lily and I especially loved the other members of Aiden's family and the antics that they got up to. I honestly can not wait for Hud's book which will be out later this year.
Can I also say that I loved that there wasn't any huge great misunderstanding that leads to Aiden and Lily harboring a righteous mad at each other? There was one small instance that sparks a fight, but they got over it really quickly and moved right along in a realistic, heartening way. As I said, loved it!
After the kinda meh last book of hers I read, this was fun and refreshing.
Loved it. Liked how it showed that family sticks together and look after each other. My favorite character had to be Char. Loved how she can handle her boys.
The first in a series set in Cedar Ridge. I love the story of Aidan and his family and Lily who returns home to find work, but ends up finding so much more. Setting is important to me in books and this one is set in the Colorado Rockies and the author makes it a special place to be. As always Jill Shalvis delivers a romantic, touching read with much more to the book than the relationship between the two main characters. Both Lily and Aidan have things in their past to deal with and lots of secrets flung in there too. I love a read where there is tension and resistance between the characters and this one delivers.
I will always head to Jill Shalvis for a comfort read, this was read in a day and I’m glad she has a good back catalogue because I can’t wait to pick up another one. The other two in this series follows the love lives of two of Aidan’s brothers who are single. I can’t wait to meet the family again.
A 5 star read - I was lost in their lives for a day and a superb escape read for me.
