A very cute, fast read. I'm a sucker for small town romances and siblings, so I was hooked in from the blurb. The romance was sweet, I liked that there wasn't too much needless angst. Aidan and Lily were likable characters and the humor I've come to enjoy in Shalvis's books was present here as well.

And as is almost always the case, I'm definitely coming back for more of the Kincaid family. The build up for the other siblings was great and I'm especially intrigued to find out more about the missing brother.

Overall enjoyable just felt like some of the scenes and interactions were repeated and didn’t feel different. How many times was she going to go for fire wood and have an animal jump out.

I've not read a lot of Jill Shalvis' books, but I've found I really enjoy the ones I have read. Second Chance Summer was no exception. Of course, I have a total soft spot for second chance romances of any type, so I figured this one would be right up my alley. I was right.

Second Chance Summer pulled me right in from the very start. Aidan was all kinds of swoony – I mean, hello hot, athletic and heroic? What else could a girl want in a good book boyfriend. Lily was a great, complicated character. She'd left her home years ago after the deaths of her sister and father. She was carrying a ton of guilt around and I hated to see it, but I understood where she was coming from. I loved the pairing of these two and watching them reconnect, even through the bumpy parts, was wonderful. As long as they'd pined for each other, watching them get a shot at a second chance made me so very happy. It wasn't an easy journey – Lily had a lot of demons to battle and baggage to handle – but Aidan was there at every turn to help in any way he could.

As I expected from Jill, there was no shortage on laughs, swoons or feels during this book. I definitely look forward to continuing on with this series. I love the small town, mountain setting and the cast of characters so far. I can't wait to learn more about them. I also have every intention of continuing to tackle Jill's backlist as time allows. Her books are perfect when I'm looking for a sweet, small town romance.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
There were some men who just knew how to kiss, the kind of kiss that could send a woman reeling. The kind of kiss that could take away problems and awareness and…and everything. The kind of kiss that could shatter her into a trillion little pieces. The kind of kiss that somehow both calmed her body and soul even as it wound her up for more.

Nice beginning to the series

Set in Colorado, this book brings the small town family back now that the Lucky Harbor series is complete. I enjoyed the couple but at times wanted to scream at them because drama and self loathing. The story is pure Jill Shalvis. If you are a fan you will like this one. If you haven't tried her out yet do!

I fell in love with Jill Shalvis on a snowy winter evening. I had just purchased my first Kindle and I wanted to find the perfect book to read. As I was skimming through hundreds of books, the words "sexy veterinarian" caught my eye. I will read anything if there is a sexy male veterinarian found someplace in the pages. Sexy male veterinarians are my kryptonite, so I bought my first Jill Shalvis book out of her Animal Magnetism series. The story was great, as I expected, but what caught me off guard was the humor. She made me laugh out loud and that rarely happens for me while reading a book. So I worked my way (quickly) through her Animal Magnetism series (many drool-worthy veterinarians in those stories), and then I started devouring the Lucky Harbor series.

I know this may be more information then you need but it is important to understand my mindset when I started Second Chance Summer. This is Jill Shalvis’s first book in her new Cedar Ridge series that is being released on June 30th. I was so head over heels excited to be one of the first people to read Second Chance Summer, but I was also scared. Jill Shalvis has been my go to author for so long. What happens if this series doesn’t have the same magic? How will I feel if this book is just okay? It is hard to recover from being disappointed by one of your go to authors, and it can throw you off of reading for a while.

When I finally turned on my Kindle and started reading, I immediately knew Jill Shalvis had woven her magic through the pages and my fears were completely unwarranted. What I love about Second Chance Summer is that it is full of very real characters that you could meet on the street or in a coffee shop of any small town. Don’t get me wrong… I like the Billionaire-sweeps-the-girl-off-her-feet-and-she-never-has-to-worry-about-anything-again type of stories but I don’t get invested in those characters. At the end of the book, I felt sad that my new friends won’t be able to come out and play again until the second book of the Cedar Ridge series is released.

But the best thing about any Jill Shalvis book is the humor. Check out one of my favorite passages:

She cleared her throat. “So you showed up all Captain America to save the day, and now what? I jump into bed with you? Was that your plan?”

“Yeah, he said, “but in my version we didn’t talk this much.”

A full-service rescue then,” she said evenly.

He tried a cajoling smile. “I’m really good at full service.”

If you like romance and humor, you won’t be disappointed. Besides I learned something very important about myself while reading this book: If sexy male veterinarians are my kryptonite, then hot male firefighters are my crack.

How is this my first Jill Shalvis book? No idea but the first one made me a huge fan! Second Chance Summer is a wonderful read, filled with just the right amount of regret and angst, sibling rivalry, and a dreamy, long overdue romance. The story features Aidan Kincaid, a wonderfully rugged alpha man facing his high school crush Lily Danville for the first time in 10 years. With Lily back in town Aiden has the opportunity to showcase his mountain man and wildfire fighter prowess. Lily on the other hand has reluctantly returned to Cedar Ridge Colorado while she works to pick up the pieces of her life. Aiden and Lily’s past is distressing and formed by how young they were when they first found each other, by misperceptions and poor communication.

Aiden and Lily were only just coming of age, hitting their late teen years when they found each. So, when a life altering tragedy struck, Lily took to the road. Lily is one of those characters that I found completely relatable. She’s incredibly loyal, almost to a fault, and reacts to Aiden like any former teenage crush would, by trying to keep her distance. How she thinks she’ll be able to resist reconnecting with Aiden is beyond me.

Aiden in contrast knows what he wants, what he feels and doesn't delude himself by denying it. He doesn’t even try to stay away from Lily and challenges her whenever he gets the chance. This new “old” attraction makes for some hot “make-up” sex. And it’s Aiden's family and their history that make for the core part of the storyline. The quirky family dynamics made this is more complex story, giving attention to domestic life and family issues.

Second Chance Summer is one of those great reads that make you feel good, that will put a smile on your face. 4 Stars and recommendation!

Before I started reading a book a day and blogging, my go to author was always Jill Shalvis. I can't even count the number of books of hers that I've read, but I can guarantee that I've enjoyed each and every one of them. She always writes the most fun, simple romances that are full of heart and heat. This book is no exception.

It was very easy to fall in love with Aiden and his rugged, protective nature. From the very beginning it's clear that his family means everything to him. He's the guy who doesn't trust easily, but if you ever earn it from him, you'll also earn his undying loyalty. If that's not the makings for a perfect BBF, I'm not sure what is.

Lily is sweet, strong and independent but doesn't feel worthy of love and happiness. The second the two of them reconnect it's obvious that they both have residual feelings from their relationship that almost was.

Aiden is pretty forthcoming with his feelings and expectations but still holds back a little out of fear of being left behind again. Lily knows what she feels but it's gonna take a little more to convince her that she deserves it.

Their journey to happy ever after is, rocky (pun intended), but perfect all the same. With Aiden's family & friend Mitch and Lily's best friend Jonathan rounding the amazing cast of characters in Cedar Ridge, some crazy rescue stories that will leave you, and maybe Aiden, in stitches, and a beautiful landscape to read about, this looks to be a new favorite series of mine.
