I found that Mac grew a lot through the book and while she was annoying as can be to begin with she is beginning to understand the world is not just black and white. She starts to believe in the fact she is a sidhe-seer and that the world is crashing down around her.
I enjoyed the book and in general found it really well written. Looking forward to the second one.

Couldn’t put it down
I devoured this book. So much fun. The character interactions are so entertaining. The descriptions of the faes are very well done. Just enough humor in the right places is a bonus.

I liked this much more than I expected. There's definitely some obvious signs this was published in 2006 (what are those outfits?), but it holds up.
When I heard there were fae and it's a fantasy romance series, I was like "Oh great, here we go." Honestly though, despite the cover having a shirtless dude on it, there's barely even a whiff of romance. I could see where it was headed but could tell this was going to be a slow burn, I'm talking the entire series slow burn.
Overall, I really liked this - the fae are horrific monsters and the main character, Mac, is a bit of a moron but in a way that can be explained by grief other than "she's just like that." I thought the plot was a bit meandering and it didn't feel like Mac had a clear goal. She'd get an idea in her head, but when that was interrupted she just... forgot about it? for awhile. I'm hoping that, as the series progresses, she gets a little smarter in her choices.

I can sense Mac growing into a likeable character because by the end I didn't hate her completely but didn't love her either. It started out a bit iffy but ended up enjoying it more. And damned if I didn't think Barrons was Alinas boyfriend. I see it was written to point in that direction but seriously, I'm still stumped it's not. V'Lane's encounters are also probably the funniest thing I've ever read. Glad I finished reading it
I love/hated this book. Chapter one. I hated Mac. She's a Barbie doll, complaining, pool in the backyard pool parties, pink nails, "Rainbow Girl". There was one quote where she was all "I have the perfect body, rounded boobs, butt and a slim waist and legs and I don't even have to try hohohoho". I could've thrown the book. (But I can't because it's on my Nook and I love my Nook) Seriously? Blond hair, blue eyed, babe thinking she deserves all of the world boohoo. I honestly thought she was 15 at first and was blown away when she said she was 22. Then her sister dies and lo and behold she's on the next flight to Dublin.
OKAY. Fast forward and I meet this Jericho Barrons character who just seems like a total dick. I'm thinking wow, he pretty much physically harrasses Mac and ALSO thinks he's the shit. Everyone thinks they're the shit! Aggh!
The plot was great and definitely gets better. I mean. I blew through the series in one weekend.. so.

I'm having a hard time judging the story because the narrator and her style was SO annoying. She likes to describe her clothes and nail color. Really? When there's a whole Fae world she's discovering? She likes to remind the reader that she's pretty. I felt like giving the author the advice I give my students -- show don't tell! Finally, she's fond of the "if I only knew then..." or "that was last time..." rhetorical device. In short, it made me yearn for a new Aaronvich or Richardson to get my urban fantasy fix and I won't be reading the rest of the series. Off to the used bookstore it goes!
