This was REALLY dark. I can usually deal with some darkness, but starting about halfway through there were multiple points where I stopped & said to myself, “Wow, this is really dark!”

All of the characters were really unlikable, but few of them were very fleshed out. Some of them were flat caricatures of stereotypes. I also didn’t find a shift in the relationship of the two main characters towards the end believable.

This was interesting? Genuinely creepy and mildly terrifying at times. But I felt more frustrated by the lack of, well, anything, to be honest. I feel like nothing was fully explained or even well thought out. There’s religious trauma mixed with spooky Appalachian horror and homophobia if you squint, but it’s all of these elements hastily thrown together. What results is just. . . something.

Nothing felt complete. Not the characters (hated them all by the way), or their backstories, and all of the horror elements. It was pretty messy, but again, I did feel actually spooked at times, so there’s that I guess?
