• small-town horror • disquietingly atmospheric • familial drama • grief • Appalachian folklore • multiple POVs •

•I believe this book is scary, and if I had watched it on TV, I’m sure it would’ve had me terrified. But in this medium, my connection to the story and the characters was really only surface-level. I wonder if I didn’t let myself get too immersed because I didn’t want to be freaked out when I go camping in these particular mountains in a few weeks.
•Leanne Woodward was fine, but I would’ve liked additional narrators.

Nowhere grabbed me and did not let go. The blend of thriller suspense and eerie mountain lore was absolutely hypnotic. Atmospheric and unsettling — I felt like I was lost in those woods right alongside the characters. So, so good.
dark mysterious tense medium-paced

This book started off really strong and I couldn’t put it down. Then somewhere near the last half I almost didn’t care anymore and I was really surprised by that. I’m happy I stuck with it though because I think it had a strong ending.

The only likable character is the youngest daughter, I think, which maybe that’s okay for some but this could have been why the book ended up dragging a bit for me.

dark sad tense

I really liked the Appalachian folk lore elements of this story, the supernatural parts were unnerving and fun, but my GOD did I hate Rachel pretty much all 40 chapters. Just an absolute nightmare of a character through and through.
