A little less than I was hoping for, but still pretty good -- couldn't help but compare it in my head to The Panopticon (Jenni Fagan), which didn't do this (relatively) lighter book any favours. The main character's voice keeps you from noticing how extremely pastiche-dystopic everything is, and also somehow situates the book partway into the world of fable or fairy-tale.
A book that seems in many ways perfectly-designed to read in a high school English class.

The writing style of the book will have you think it's for kids. THIS IS NOT FOR KIDS, or at least not for kids who aren't gonna be ok with a couple f-bombs and some rather brutal murder in their book. But HOLY HELL is this one of my favourite books ever written. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
