I enjoyed the witchcraft element of this book, but found the extensive gynaecological details about pregnancy and birth to be quite off-putting. In fact, I will not have this book openly available in my school library. I will make it available to older readers who enjoy the horror genre, after forewarning them about the graphic details. I'm still stunned to find the author is a man. I was also disturbed to discover that Fern's baby was born the day before me. Although I was born in the UK, the world politics of the time was as described in this book. Not for anyone who has surrendered a baby - too raw.
