The setting of the story and the experiences the characters were having were really stunning. What stood out most was the really honest, graphic depiction of childbirth.

I love and hate this book. I’m not much of a horror reader and had to read this for a book club. It was, at times, way too intense for me. But by the end, I realized how phenomenal and original this story is. It also sheds light on a horrifying part of women’s history that wasn’t that long ago. Read it for sure if you love horror!

Could not put this down, it was an intense look into “Homes” for unwed teen mothers, sprinkled with witchcraft.
Do NOT read this if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, there are graphic depictions of birth. Really highlights the way the medical system and men in general ignored, gaslit, and harmed girls during this time.
