Everything that i felt was lacking from the first book was remedied in this one. Dont get me wrong i thoroughly enjoyed the first one but ill list out the differences i enjoyed and why. The first book was good! It was entertaining and fun but the main character felt a little toooo stereotypical fantasy female main character to me. She hunted and hated dresses and ate like an animal because she was different from other girls. It's not a bad thing it's just overdone. Kailani was a really good happy medium. She was girly and smart but also knew when to get down and dirty it felt more relatable. There was significantly more world building and political/war topics in this book than the first which i appreciated. It is still in my opinion a romance series set in a fantasy setting rather than a fantasy romance but it is really well done for what it is. I really enjoyed raife and kailanis story and I'm excited to read book three.
