Y'all, I was ready to despise this man. Kingfisher was such a mouthy asshole that the first 25% of the book had me wishing someone would just punch him out cold.

But then... we get to know him.

The way this man grew on me!!!

THE WAY HE EVENTUALLY GOT ALL SOFT FOR SAERIS!!!

That's the kind of stuff that really gets to you. I was so against him at first, but I ended up falling for him 😭😭😭. Honestly, by the time I learned everything Kingfisher had been through, I was surprised he wasn’t more of a dick to everyone around him. I would’ve been insufferable in his shoes.

The world-building in this book also had me hyped. I love a good romantasy where I genuinely can't predict what’s coming next, and this one delivered. Not to mention, my girl Saeris was such an easy protagonist to love. She's fiery with a marshmallow center, and I love her for that. She and Kingfisher had such amazing banter that I was literally rolling around on my bed in sheer delight.

I can’t wait to see more of them in the next book!!

I want to screammm at ALL THE CLIFFHANGERS AND ALL THE MAJOR THINGS HAPPENING at the end. Aghhh why do I do this to myself by reading fantasy books that just came out and probably won’t have the sequel come out for a year or two

The Booktok socials made me do it. This book was messy fun. And I flew through it. I was intrigued enough by the world and the characters pull you in. 

However, it is one of those books that the more I think about the plot now that I’m finished, the more it becomes a bit nonsensical. Our core couple also very quickly falls into some fated instalove. Which fine. They’re hot, moody and misunderstood, so I guess sign me up. 

It was exactly what I was looking for. Can’t wait for the sequel. Would recommend.
