The structure of "The Family Upstairs" mostly annoyed me... the jumps around in time, the various characters, the settings. Nothing about the novel impressed me and I cannot recommend it.

Yet another book that languished on my shelf far too long. THE FAMILY UPSTAIRS by @lisajewelluk hit so many of the elements I love in a book and had me reading late into the night:
✔️ multiple POV
✔️dual timeline
✔️a cult
✔️mysterious deaths
✔️creepy and atmospheric

This was soooo good! I really liked the build-up of the story, the 3 different points of view, the twists and turns, some predictable and others not so easy to spot. The premise was also super interesting, and for a book with many characters, it really wasn't too hard to follow. Beautifully written, amazing story and plot and I'm eager to read the sequel.

I would love to listen to a book club discussion about this book. I’m not sure I would be able to contribute much, because I’m still processing this one. I devoured this book from the very first chapter. I needed so many answers- and I love how they weren’t all given to you. Lisa Jewell left the perfect amount to the imagination. She didn’t drag out the ending, but was able to present it in a way that didn’t seem hurried or condensed. I would love a sequel or a prequel or anything to get more of this story. I have a feeling this will be one of my top reads for 2020. 4/5 stars because it was a little predictable (not completely) and a few completely unrealistic things bothered me.

This book was not what I expected. I picked it up because it was so highly recommend. I found it hard to read consistently. It didn’t start to pick up until almost page 300 and then it was over! If it was just from the perspective of Henry I think this book would have been a 5⭐️
