Rich, incredibly written, poignant, moving short stories about family, grief, loss, memory, sex, queerness, poverty, and being a human person
Graphic: Cancer, Domestic abuse, Drug use, Physical abuse, Death of parent
Some of these stories were absolutely spectacular. Even though I had a very different upbringing than Allison, I found so much of my childhood in these pages. I loved "A Lesbian Appetite" and the ways in which it explores South Carolinian foods and the constant longing for our parents' cooking! Other stories were haunting or quite disturbing.... I really did enjoy this and recommend it, but it is a tough read with a lot of trigger warnings.

A collection of short stories. God, I feel like I've never read a book like this that let women be so hungry before, so complicated and fucked up and loving and thoughtful. These stories have been sitting with me as I've read them on the subway. I liked the ones reminiscing/reflecting on the feminist moment of its time, and how much I'd like to be in such an intentionally political feminist community. It's cool too, to see how this author so clearly connects her sexuality to her politics and her community and her identity. I picked this up because one of the stories excepted in In the Dream House. If you're a friend of mine and you read this, give me a call, I'd love to think about them more.

Had me in the beginning, got crazy in the middle, really got me by the end. Some stories I’ll definitely think about, but a mixed bag of stories that are definitely gonna stick with me
