I read this with my daughter and we both loved it! I’m sure we’ll read it again when she’s a bit older too and make new discoveries together!

Super cute! A little different from the film but still a classic for me!!

My expectations for this were met. It was as adorable as the film. I loved Kiki’s spunk and Jiji’s sass. I also loved reading the author’s note about how this story came from a drawing her 12-year-old daughter made of a witch flying on a broomstick with a little red radio with music notes floating around. I hope her daughter is so proud of this series and all the people that have fallen in love with Kiki’s story.

Kiki's Delivery Service is a cozy heartwarming novel set in a delightful world. Kiki is a witch who has come of age and is starting her life and career in a new town, along with her companion cat Jiji. The town they settle in is full of warm people who take them in, teach them, and ultimately love them. It's very much written in a similar vein to Anne of Green Gables or Little Women, where there are lots of vignettes of stories where the main character learns lessons or develops in some way.

I adored it, and after the bookclub discussion I absolutely agree that this world would be a great one to escape into. Very community-focused, no school, no money, just people being themselves and building one another up while embracing someone different from themselves. This is the first book in a five book series, but the only one to have been translated into English. I would happily read the rest if they ever get translated though.
