Escalofriante y atmosférica.

This book wasn’t what I expected. I wouldn’t say it’s horror but more or less psychological thriller. It had everything I love in other books. End of the world cult vibes, stolen identity, just missed the scary aspect. Plus the long chapters it was hard to get into it on some days. I found myself reaching for my phone and do other things than read. I did enjoy it very much, the ending was mid for me but overall I enjoyed this book

Ward did an incredible job creating the cult here - it was believable that the followers would buy into it, but she also showed how the leader accomplished that. She also served an immersive and compelling atmosphere, and there were moments I was genuinely shocked by the turns in the story. I didn’t rate it 5 stars because the story was confusing in how it was presented - the POVS and timelines were all over the place, and there are still some plot points I’m trying to reconcile in my head.

Overall, an eery and compelling literary horror.

(Copy provided by Netgalley). Little Eve is the first book by Catriona Ward that I've read and if this is a good indication of her writing then I'm looking forward to checking out her other books! Fascinating characters and an engrossing mystery had me reading this late into the night, not wanting to put it down.

My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was led to believe this was horror. Is the content disturbing? Yes. It's visceral and upsetting and sad. But I wouldn't classify this as a horror novel, personally. But wow, what a well-written story.

Ward has a new fan in me. She's now up there with Alex E. Harrow for new authors whose books I'll buy sight unseen.
