While ultimately I’m glad I read this one, there were a few things that didn’t make me absolutely, 100% love it.
What I did like was the plot. I really liked that while set in high school, there wasn’t any of the stereotypical mean characters or Lara Jean being a huge outcast. Sure both of these things had a little presence, but was not a main focus or made to be a major hurdle in the plot. I enjoyed the positiveness of good family relationships. It also was a great story about Lara Jean learning to get outside her comfort zone.
The characters is where this book falls a little short for me. My biggest complaint is that either Lara Jean was purposely written in a slightly immature voice or that is simply how her character read/ sounded to me. This made it hard to read at times because she’s supposed to be in late high school yet sounded more middle school (at most).
Overall, I really liked this book. It was a very fun and cute YA book, which is basically what I expected.

★★★★☆
+I feel like I haven't read a book set in my time in forever. And ever.
+ The voice is a little immature? Even for a sophomore in high school, she comes across a little young. But that's just me I know I know I'll be quiet now.
+ This is going to sound pretentious but, this book (and series) doesn't advertise it's self as anything else but what it is. A down-to-earth, quirky, romance. And I enjoy that.
+ my teeth are rotting

+ But this book is also honest. It doesn't hide the realities of being in a relationship. It does define what it really means to like someone up close. About give and take in a relationship and compromise and akslhdhj we need some realistic love stories in chick-lit.
+ Sister love is for real; not in the "ah yes I love my sisters!" but in the "ugh, yes, I love my sisters. What did you say?? Only I can trash talk them, loser!"
+ Love triangle wasn't??? Annoying??? Maybe because I had a good sense of who she was going to end up with or because I have only once in my life experienced a love triangle that wasn't annoying, and that was because they all love each other so much (oh god I can't get started on The Infernal Devices)
+ Character development!!!! Not just good!!! But excellent!! People! Learning! From their experiences!!
+ Nice soft cliffhanger- kinda tired of those though. Write a conclusion you gosh darn novelists (jkjkjkjk)

I tell myself I'm not going to read the second one. I'm going to Overdrive to put a hold on it immediately. I'm very conflicted between what I like and what I want to read.
So charming! While definitely being in the teen fiction genre (and, yes, dealing with the drama of teen interaction and high school), this book was really fun, sweet, and charming to read. I usually really dislike YA books, but I just loved this! It was sweet & funny.

I was so dubious about this book at first that I already decided to put it down without finishing. I was so glad I tried again, and I loved it. It wasn't really a life-changing book or whatever, but it definitely worked its way slowly into deeper corners of my memory. The more I read, the more tugs I felt on my heartstings. I remembered days from the past that I thought won't matter anymore and soon, my eyes were filled with tears. Oh this book. I was really glad I finished it.
Very cute little YA read! I enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing what Netflix does with it.
3.5

This was so cute!! In a SHOCKING TWIST, I think the movie was better??? But that's mostly because the movie is Phenomenally Soft And Good, not because the book is at all lacking. Peter Kavinsky is a dreamy love interest, Lara Jean is a fun and relatable protagonist, all is right with the world. A soft, sweet, quick read that made me very happy!
Wrong in so many ways... If you a good want fake dating story, I can point you to thousands of better fanfics.
