I would definitely recommend this book to a friend! I did not read its synopsis prior to diving in and I would urge you to do the same. I was quickly sucked into the story as Simon’s point of view reminded me of Joe Goldberg’s in You. Without giving away any of the plot, I will say that there were so many moving parts, at times I wished I had a notebook to keep track of certain revelations. I guessed half of the big twist but not the rest of it… then another twist came at the end of the book that ruined it for me. Quit while you’re ahead, author! Still, I’ll be picking up David Ellis’s 2024 release shortly.

Quick read with good pacing. It has short chapters and differing view points, he does a good job with conversations and perspectives. Overall, the book was fine. I’d recommend it. Wasn’t stunning literary prose but it was captivating.

Best thriller I've read in a long time! It made me want to read everything else Ellis has written.

The twists build on each other in a really clever way. Some of the unknowns never get wrapped up which I thought was a great way to leave me wanting more. Alongside incredible thriller/mystery story construction, Ellis managed to make Simon and Vicky and Jane and Christian super engaging POV characters.

Simon's dedication to the long con is absolutely unmatched. He's truly diabolical, and somehow completely justified. What an amazing character.

Would absolutely recommend!

I wanna give it 4 stars for the full plot but this book has a lot of character building that were too long and very uninteresting lol. I had to skim a lot of those to get through the plot. For example the first scene after the "prolog". About 2 law professors talking about dressing to look the part (as law professor). I get what it was trying to do, introducing our main character. But it felt so pointless and boring. And this book has a lot of that.

But it's paid off by the layers of the reveals. It wasn't even convoluted but it was built so well. The timeline in storytelling also helps, it went back and forth in time.

You have to listen to this audiobook! It is such a great thriller. I did not see the any of the twist and turns coming! MediumISH sexual content. All 4 of the narrators gave a fantastic performance.
