A fun, straightforward romp with relatively lightweight stakes, no real villain, and a wide streak of goofiness. It's awesome to see Captain Haddock in his element, he's always my favorite.
Graphic: Antisemitism
The villain, such as it is, of this story is a nefarious banker who looks like a flamingly obvious, classic antisemitic stereotype.
Anyone who grew up without Hergé - I'm terribly sorry.
One of my favourite Tintin adventures which sees him and his team on a race to reach a recently crashed meteorite.
The story is nice and straightforward with some fun stuff happening on the sinking island that has always stuck with me.
Simply fun.

Big fan of European comics. They're mostly devoid of superheroes instead, their focus is on ordinary characters in extraordinary situations. Really enjoyed the humor in this one.

Herge starts going science-fiction on us and it's weird and wonderful. Weird in the way that [b:A Strange Manuscript found in a Copper Cylinder|1004057|A Strange Manuscript found in a Copper Cylinder|James De Mille|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328811946s/1004057.jpg|478291] or just about anything by Wells or Verne is: trying to imagine beyond then-current understanding. This results in things that are and aren't very much how you'd expect them to go. Wonderful in that it's a great adventure of discovery.
A pity so much of the science of the science-fiction was ignored by the otherwise-well-researched Herge. What caused the fireball to be so bright before it hit the atmosphere? If Tintin in Belgium was rocked about so badly by the impact, why is the Icelandic port not shown to have been wiped completely away? To say nothing of the serious loss of life caused by tremors even "just" as violent as the one Tintin experienced.
If you can get over it, it's a fun voyage of discovery with excellent characters (except the seaplane pilot whom I always assumed had some development on the voyage to the island edited out).
