AH-MAZING, I love Adrienne Young’s writing! A great mystery and romance. This story’s mystery kept me on my toes and I wasn’t able to figure it out but everything fell into place so it didn’t feel like the solution came from nowhere. I did think that the ending to the conflict was kind of anti-climactic, but there wasn’t really any other way that would’ve made sense for the setting. Young portrayed small town living really well too. All the gossip, collusion, corruption… I come from a small town & I’ve seen it all; the author either did great research or she grew up that way too.

This witchy mystery has a lot of moving parts to keep track of. But, the story is really compelling and kept my interest. The author falls into a few cliche pitfalls (ex- she let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding). But, overall the story is really well crafted. I was able to guess what happened, but it really did take a lot of the book to get there. 4/5 stars

4.5 stars. Witchy. Romantic. Thrilling. Vivid descriptions of a gorgeous setting. A perfect fall read. Half star off because I did guess the “twists” in the later parts of the book before they’re revealed.

I read this book for my book club. I really liked the slow burn and being drip fed little clues and red herrings. I didn't feel bored because of this though, I was captivated and felt the pull to continue reading. The mystery wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It lacked in comparison to what I had conjured up in my head.

This wasn’t for me, but it could be for you. Read a lot like if Lifetime or hallmark made Practical Magic, but with hardly any magic.

What I did like was the atmosphere and the setting.

One of the things that was supposed to be a surprise (or at least was to the MC) was something that I thought we were supposed to know the whole time, so a lot of the shock factor that was supposed to be there wasn’t there for me.

The characters didn’t seem to have a lot going on besides their relation to each other. I find it hard to believe the MC didn’t have any friends at all besides the older people on the island who really weren’t even her friends.

Another reviewer mentioned that it feels slow in the beginning and rushed at the end and I totally feel that way, although I also couldn’t wait to finish.

3.5 stars — I think the pace of this book left a lot to be desired in my opinion. The author is a great story teller with a knack for setting the scene and descriptions, however, it was such a slow burn and then felt very fast at the end. One review said “lots of drama for a bunch of apples”, lol, yeah. I think once a lot of the foreshadowing came to light, it spiraled to a very fast paced ending when the beginning was a very slow, work at the shop, miss my lover, wonder what the hell happened self pity vibe. I hated the main characters voice in the beginning but it did get better. I won this book in a giveaway and I am glad I got to read something from this author and might give the first book of her series a try at some point.

A nice cozy read, wouldn't really call it "atmospheric" but it's just because I wasn't really in the right state of mind to properly enjoy the vibes the book wanted to give.

The chapters are short and easy to read, very engaging, the only problem is that the prospectives change a lot and I was not a fan of that. You got prospectives from almost every character, not only the protagonists, and that kinda threw me off, but by the end I saw the point of it so I didn't mind at the end.
I wouldn't say the characters are that well developed: other then the murder and the fire that occurred 14 years prior they don't seem to have a lot going on in their mind, but to be fair, the book is short and it made no sense to go over other things which would have ended up sounding futile and extra. That said, I grew really attached to the two main characters and found myself rooting for them.

If you are looking for an easy yet deep and cozy read, pick up this book. It's well written and does the job. Do not expect to read a masterpiece.
