‘i do not want to die, i do not want to live’
pretty much sums up the play itself, the deep dive into the complexity that mental health comes with.

when it is explained in polarizing ways where you would not necessarily be able to guess whether or not someone is still stuck or free.

Form and content merge as Kane expertly creates experience from literature. A difficult read made possible by masterful craft

This was the blackest, most experimental piece of literature I’ve ever read. It was deeply moving, and grueling, and I’m glad I read it. I am intensely curious about the rest of Kane's work, and about who she was as a person. And I want more than anything to go back in time and be a friend to her.

I find it hard to recognise what I've just read as a dramatic text. For me, this was so much more like poetry, probably the saddest poetry I've held in my hands. I struggled to read this separately from the declining mental health of the woman who wrote it in order to give credit to the richness of the play itself. The text, much like its structure, is extremely elusive and melancholic and I'd be a liar if I said that I managed to comprehend it in depth. What I can say is that it was hauntingly beautiful, ingenious, touching.

In the end, I may be failing myself for I am eaten up whole by a very specific, obsessive thought; what must a writer go through so that such splendid texts can be produced? Thanks to 4.48 Psychosis I came closer to the answer but would still have many torturing miles to go in order to actually find it.

I can't begin to describe my reaction to this play... It's hauntingly beautiful and extremely sad, being the final play Sarah Kane wrote it's clear there were a lot of emotions going through her head when it was created. This is the work that introduced me to Sarah Kane, through a google search when trying to find a monologue for drama, and it immediately drew me in with its extreme sadness and poignant manner. It's one of those works that you need to be in a certain headspace to read, but if you're doing okay then I highly recommend it.

Quite a pleasant read compared to Blasted although still left me feeling physically ill but that’s okay because it’s also kind of poetic ??
