This was such a great installment in the Mercy Thompson series which picked up on the damage the Soul Taker had rended on Mercy. That damage was a crucial element of what happened in this story and the enhanced senses Mercy had were interesting and exposing.

Frost giants, Norsk Ragnorok, hell hounds and white stags were the order of the week. The whole story had a cold, snowy and dangerous vibe. What I especially loved about this book was that this was an Mercy-Adam duo, not seperated but working together. I feel like we don't get that enough or that getting that experience now makes me appreciate it more.

There were a whole host of supernatural beings in this one, more than normal it felt. I just about coped with the ghosty bits!

Bonarata is lurking ominously in the background and I have a feeling that that battle is ahead next. I cannot wait. I will read this series as long as Briggs keeps writing it (please keep writing it).

Thank you to Orbit books for the eARC.

Thank you to Orbit and Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion in anyway.

Winter Lost is already book 14 in the Mercy Thompson series. And I am sure that I am not the only one who was heavily anticipating this book.

In this installment Mercy is still struggling with the effects of what happened to her with the Soul Taker. It has left some marks on her magic and her soul. She's not quite herself. And that one vampire really won't leave her alone. It is creating a lot of anxiety. So when her brother crashes back into her life, needing her help, it is not exactly making life a whole lot easier for her.

What I loved most about this whole book was the way that Mercy's panic attacks and anxiety were depicted. I really resonate with that because I have anxiety. But I also appreciated how we got Adam's perspective. That he wants to help her, in her way, but how difficult that is for him as well. His own fear and stress for his mate. I think its important that there isn't one side without making it a negative. It really creates a lot of depth in their relationship. And that doesn't mean they never argue. The still had some of that as well. It shows a functioning relationship where they are working on things. Not a perfect one.

I struggled a little with the interludes at the start because I couldn't place the characters. Once we got interludes about Sherwood and Warren and so on, that shifted. I found seeing what happened while Mercy and Adam were away from the pack to be really interesting. I also thought it was interesting to meet grandmother spider. A true fae who just makes things harder for Mercy because she thinks she needs help, but in the end does end up actually helping Mercy.

The story was okay. But it was a backdrop to what Mercy had to deal with and that felt deep. Having Mercy being away from all those others she feels she has to take care of was a good thing for her.

Overal I think this might be one of my favorite installments of the series because of the above mentioned. It is more about Mercy's mental health and her relationship with Adam, and I think that was needed. A bit of a break from the very big stuff that I am sure we will go back to in the next few books.

Winter Lost was an adventure from beginning to end. It takes place shortly after the events of the previous book, Soul Taken - where Mercy is suffering from the effects of the artifact. Now, Gary - her half brother needs assistance that only Mercy can provide. Through Ms.Briggs' mysterious and twisting storytelling - you'll find out what's going on at the heart of the storm in Winter Lost. Your favorite ensemble cast of characters appear, but this book primarily focuses on the mission in Montana, along with some new viewpoints from other characters we've yet to see. A great addition to the Mercy Thompson collection and one that is furthering the grand game of the Mercy-verse.

If it's a Mercy Thompson Novel, I will read it. Like Immediately.  I love the world of Mercy and her wolves and fae and whoever else.

But this story felt like a transition story? I felt like there were a few loose ends they needed to tie off from previous stories and set up a few new ones. But Im ok with that because it is always a good time when it comes to a Patricia Briggs book in this world. The time jumps were new for me and the different points of views from characters we weren't familiar with kind of threw off the book for me just a bit. It all came together in the end and Im sure some of that will end up in a future book, but still.

Not my favorite of the series, but like i said, i felt like it tied off some loose ends from other books and set us up for something new too.

This one gets a 3.5/5 from me.

Much like "Soul Taken", this was not a great Mercy book. I felt like there wasn't enough main story so other threads were tossed in but they either weren't resolved or seemed pointless and called "Interludes". I feel like Patty has been experimenting with multiple POV since River Marked but it hasn't really added to or improved the storytelling for me. It could be a cool device to explore other characters in the Mercyverse but I'd rather see that in, say, a collection of short stories than an unrelated snippet in the main novel.

Overall I enjoyed it because I always enjoy Mercy, but she seems to be losing that edgy spark that made me connect so much to her character. I would say that if, like me, you find Soul Taken a little forgettable you should reread that first. Normally Patty is on top of the exposition but I felt a little lost in this one because I apparently didn't retain much of Soul Taken.

This was an interesting spin on the normal adventures that you have when you read a Mercy Thompson book. I was a little worried going in reading some early reviews, but I ended up really enjoying the story. I wish that the normal side characters got more time on page for us to understand their situations within the book, but Mercy and Adam were wonderful.

As I said before this adventure is a little different, and I really enjoyed the change of getting more Adam chapters, but it was confusing with the other characters who get chapters. I wish that the chapters where titled with whose POV we were getting at the moment. I don't feel that takes away from the story if it's just label it under the number. I am looking forward to the next book and will be adding these to my yearly re read of the whole Mercy Thompson series.

A lot different from the previous Mercy books in that this has multiple POVs and it can be confusing as to what each has to do with the plot till the end.
