I enjoyed it, though it was more of a drama/beach book than I normally go for. The characters were not self aware, but we get to see all of their weaknesses. I wish that we saw more of why Emira had a disaffected, disconnected voice. There wasn't enough backstory on the protagonist- how she ended up the slacker of her group.

The portrait of Alix/others in the circle was great and more complete than of Emira.

A short book I wish had been longer.

This book is a perfectly uncomfortable story of micro aggressions and the way racism and white supremacy are insidious. As a white reader if found myself cringing and feeling very unsettled, and i believe that was the point. Highly recommend
