A good read that I would recommend and kept me going, but ending felt a little predictable / lacklustre

The way to pronounce stuff is a ball ache, so I basically made my own version up, but that’s the only flaw. I loved this, it’s very cleverly written, full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming.

Homophobic & misogynist book. Very disappointing because the plot and setting are intriguing, as is the idea of a couple who own a weaving business and befriend an Alexander McQueen-type designer. Don’t waste your time on this mess.

Having read the Lewis trilogy I was looking forward to reading another Peter May book which was set in the Outer Hebrides. I was not disappointed as this book hooks you from page 1 and is difficult to put down.
I love the sense of place that Peter May gives in this book. It makes me want to visit these windswept islands. His descriptions are like seeing a photo or painting of these places - the plot can become almost irrelevant book as these are so good.
The plot itself is a little far fetched but this did not stop my enjoyment of the book and I read it at far quicker than my usual pace.

As other reviewers have said the ending let this book down. I had guessed who the murderer was as well. Otherwise the characters of Niamh, Sylvie and the others with the exception of Ruaraidh were were well drawn. I never got a sense of what Ruaraidh was really like

I enjoyed the pace of this story but it's probably the closest thing I've read to a Dan Brown or a Judith Kranz in years, and that's not a compliment. Incredibly cliched, full of very trite character stereotypes- the overworked guilty single parent, the sad heroine who needs her husband, the appallingly excessive fashion designer-just hilarious. The end is highly predictable and disappointingly brief. I needed to turn the pages to find out what happened but now I'm wondering why I've read it! 3 stars for accidental fun content.

this story looks like a murder mystery until the last couple of chapters. after appearing as though the main character's husband was having an affair with a fellow industry member and getting killed in an explosion in paris, going through the whole process of having a funeral and coming home to find one of the detectives on the "murder investigation" has been killed, it turned out that the husband was not killed at all but chose to disappear for a few days. during theperiod of mourning before the funeral, the main character's life is almost taken by someone who used to be a friend since childhood. after the funeral (which turns out tobe for the wrong person), she is invited to a party, then upon getting home discovers the body of the detective, before her said "friend" once again attempts to kill her. at this point her husband reappears and everything is finally explained.
I normally don't enjoy crime fiction, but this is yet another I just kept reading.
